Briercrest sits in south-central Saskatchewan, about 42 km southeast of Moose Jaw and 77 km southwest of Regina, in the Rural Municipality of Redburn No. 130. Its post office opened in 1903, when the area was still part of the North West Territories, within the provisional district of Assiniboia West. Saskatchewan became a province in 1905, and Briercrest incorporated as a village on April 17, 1912.
Schooling came early to the district. Coventry School District 213 was one of the first one-room schools, started in 1891, and Hipperholme School District 467 followed in 1899. Many more one-room school districts appeared in the early 1900s and carried on until the mid-twentieth century, when they were gradually replaced by the Briercrest Family of Schools.
Briercrest is also the birthplace of Briercrest College and Seminary, which began here in 1935 as the Briercrest Bible Institute. As student numbers grew, the school needed a larger home, and in 1946 it moved to the airbase at Caronport. It still carries the Briercrest name in honour of where it began.
